Enjoy an intimate and absorbing evening of music and story tracing the evolution of the blues from Africa, through its origins in the American south, solidifying in the Mississippi Delta, east Texas and Louisiana at the turn of the century, and then across the US and eventually the world. Be transformed through the power of music to the cottonfields, the prisons and the churches where the blues was in its infancy. Learn some field hollers, some blues from the early masters, and traditional spirituals that gave the blues it’s early fervour, even sing a few yourself.
There’s also the option to go that little bit further by workshopping a tune or two and performing them as a group later in the night. From the kids to the old folks there’s no better way to immerse yourself in the tradition than by singing the songs that were sung when the blues was just coming alive.

People you’ve probably heard of like Muddy Waters, Son House and Robert Johnson, but others you may not have: Ma Rainey, Harry Smith, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Memphis Minnie, Blind Willie McTell and plenty more.
